Kairuga

Kairuga was my first game made using Game Maker. Prior to making Kairuga I had little experience with coding, but I gradually acquired an understanding of it after studying other people's examples and games. After having it receive fairly positive reviews, I noted the resentment towards the short content of the game as the reason why it wasn't as successful as it should've been. Nevertheless, it was an important starting point, leading onto other bigger projects.

The above is a screenshot of the game. It was a short mini-game, designed with the term "Ikaruga Tribute" in mind. Ikaruga is an innovative shooter developed by Treasure; the game gives you the ability to switch "polarity", (white and black) in order absorb the respective colors of the enemy shots. White would deal double damage to black, and vice versa. Also, you could absorb shots until your power meter is filled up, which then you could unleash a volley of polarity missiles. My tribute to Ikaruga was finished in 1 month during the summer of 2006. It contains one level.
